The Asia Oceania Service Meeting
AOSM
Bangkok Thailand 2009

The 2009 AOSM is going to be in Bangkok Thailand. Thailand put in a successful bid for the 2009 event in Ranzan Japan just outside of Tokyo in 2007.
The area where the AOSM meeting will be held is one of the main business areas of Bangkok. AOSM Delegates will all be assigned a buddy that is familiar with the city and they will be there to assist you before, during and after the event with any questions you may have.
There will be several opportunities to meet the local AA community. If you are interested please let us know and we will try to schedule you opportunities to share your unique experience, strength and hope in meetings outside of the AOSM event. If you plan to see additional areas of Thailand & South East Asia we would strongly encourage you to visit meetings outside of Bangkok to share about your AOSM experiences and AA in your country.
Bangkok should be an excellent location for an AOSM with it great hotels and convention facilities as well as an excellent transportation infrastructure featuring its brand new state of the art airport Suvarnabhumi. Delegates will have easy access via the sky train and the new metro system to most parts of Bangkok, a very inexpensive and fast way to get around. Taxis are also very abundant and compared to other major cities in the AOSM region, very inexpensive.
Taxis from Suvarnabhumi to the convention facilities will cost around $10 USD. Depending on the time of day that you arrive in Bangkok, from the time that you deplane, go through customs, collect your luggage and taxi ride to hotel should average for most delegates around 2 hours total.
Bangkok a major tourism destination has thousands of hotel rooms available at very affordable rates. The great majority of rooms near the AOSM event are Air Con and hot water. Many hotels in the area have internet with Wifi readily available as well as direct in room connections.
Getting Thailand Sim Cards for mobile phones is easy and very inexpensive international SMS is available from Thailand. Many Internet shops in the area are open 24 hours and have broadband connections & Skype so inexpensive international calls are also available.

The choices for food in Bangkok are many with most major cuisines present. Those with special dietary needs should have no problem finding suitable food within walking distance of the event.
There is a major western international hospital less than 5 minutes from the convention facilities. Many embassies are also in the vicinity of the AOSM meeting.
A. A. 's Preamble describes Alcoholics Anonymous as "a Fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism." That process, at the heart of how A. A. . works, happens between individuals, in groups at A. A. meetings, and indeed whenever and wherever sober alcoholics gather.
AOSM is a zonal meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. The meeting was created to share experience, strength and hope among the participating countries helping them to establish, grow and unify AA in the Asia and Pacific area. Sponsorship of developing countries by more established countries helps to reach the hand of A. A. ever further out to help others to achieve sobriety.
Held since 1995, the AOSM occurs every two years, rotating throughout the region in odd years.
I am responsible
When anyone, anywhere reaches out for help,
I want the hand of A. A. to be there
And for that, I am responsible. .

Preamble
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A. A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A. A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
